Central Park Bird Report 4/16-4/22

Common Loon continued on Reservoir through Wednesday
Red-Necked Grebe continues on Reservoir
WILD TURKEY seen in various spots in Central Park since Thursday.
Red-Headed Woodpecker still at The Dene.
Belted Kingfisher at Oven/Point/Riviera on Friday and today
Wood Thrush (early) roaming around Ramble today
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER around Point and Upper Lobe this week.

FOS (normal)
Chimney Swift (several sightings late week)
Northern Waterthrush (few sightings, first on Sunday)
Yellow Warbler (several sightings, first on Thursday)
Northern Parula (few sightings, first on Thursday)

9 warblers species in the park this week

Savannah Sparrows are appearing with regularity, especially at the Grassy Knoll.
Field and Chipping Sparrows are in decent numbers
Very few Eastern Phoebes are around
Several sightings of House Wren
Blue-Headed Vireos are now an regular sight.
Very few waterfowl on Reservoir, with just Buffelheads, Northern Shovelers, Gadwalls, and Ruddy Ducks remaining (excluding MALL and CANG).

Bird Report 4/9-4/15

CATTLE EGRET (first land record) between 8th and 9th avenues and 28th and 29th streets on a lawn since this weekend.
Common Loon(s) continues on Reservoir
GLAUCOUS GULL seen on Monday and Tuesday on Reservoir
House Wren seen on Tuesday
2 Prairie Warblers in the Loch on Wednesday
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER at the Point and Humming Tombstone on Wednesday (probably same bird)

FOS (normal)
Blue-Headed Vireos (several)
Black-and-White Warbler (several)


Increasing numbers of:
Northern Flicker (huge)
Brown Thrasher (slight)
Hermit Thrush
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet (huge)

Central Park Bird Report 4/3-4/8

2 Ring-Necked Ducks on Turtle Pond Wednesday
RED-NECKED GREBE continues on Reservoir
2 Common Loons continue on Reservoir
Red-Headed Woodpecker continues at the Dene
ORCHARD ORIOLE male (very early!) observed in east part of Ramble on Friday

Warbler species observed this week are Pine, Palm, Yellow-Rumped (few), and Louisiana Waterthrush (few), the latter of which is new for the season. There have been several sightings of Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers since early this week. Eastern Phoebes, Golden-Crowned Kinglets are still common, along with Chipping Sparrows as well. Smaller numbers of Ruby-Crowned Kinglets are also in the park. The first Field Sparrow of the spring was found on Friday near the MET museum.

Extralimital: INDIGO BUNTING male (very early!) observed in Fort Tryon Park on Saturday
PILEATED WOODPECKER observed in Fort Tryon Park on Saturday

Eastern Phoebes have become very common
A few sightings of Osprey and both vulture species
Northern Pintail continues at Pond and Lake
Red-Headed Woodpecker continues at The Dene
Several sightings of Chipping Sparrows
Many Song Sparrows and Dark-Eyed Juncos
A few Red-Breasted Nuthatches
Golden-Crowned Kinglets are here.

Northern Pintail male and Wood Duck male continue at Pond
Green-Winged Teal seen at Meer
2 Ring-Necked Ducks (male and female) at Reservoir since Friday.
Common Merganser female at Reservoir on Friday.
RED-NECKED GREBE released from rehab onto reservoir on 2/1, has remained there since and appears to be healthy.
GLAUCOUS GULL at Reservoir briefly on Wednesday and Friday.
Great Blue Heron at Pond occasionally up to a little less than a week ago.
Bald Eagle seen above Reservoir on Wednesday.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKER immature near East 68th street gazebo (The Dene). Likely the same bird that had been seen in late October and early November.
